After mustering up enough strength to shower, I was finally dressed. I looked cute despite the circumstances. I stared at myself in the mirror. I didn’t look too bad. I mean, once you moved past the huge welt across my face, and the fucked up eyelids I was good. I laughed and shook my head. Who am I kidding? I look horrible. I couldn’t even look at my naked body. I put my clothes on without even looking in the mirror. I was wearing a long sleeve v-neck to conceal the burns on my arms. I was hot as fuck! I wore a pair of PINK joggers and some UGGS. I was in winter clothes in the middle of Spring.

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I continued to stare at myself. My hair was covered with a bonnet because Boss pulled patches out. He literally ripped my sewn in hair out of my scalp. It’s going to take a miracle to rebuild my confidence.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

I walked away from the dirty mirror to answer the door for Carla.

When she walked in, she dropped her makeup case, and wrapped her arms around me. She hugged me so tight. This was her first time seeing me since visiting in the hospital. Like I said, once I was discharged I didn’t want to be bothered with anyone.

I was a little reluctant but I hugged her back. I’ve never really been the touchy-feely type. And now that I went through that shit with Boss, I’m really standoffish.

“Why you dressed like it’s forty degrees, bitch?” asked Carla as we stepped away from each other, “It’s nice as fuck outside.”

I rolled my eyes, “I’m not outside though.”

She sat her makeup case on the table and frowned up, “But you’re about to be, Zee.” She paused, “I know you got some short slee—

“I don’t want to wear short sleeves! Alright?!” I snapped.

She drew back and held her hands up, “Okay, Zee. I’m sorry…” she gave me the side eye as she opened her case, “where you about to go?” she asked, changing the subject.

I sat on the couch and sighed, “I need to go to the crib, grab my stash, and find a new place.” I looked around Zo’s house in disgust again, “I can’t stay in this bitch any longer.”

“He know you leaving?” she asked as she began to pull stuff out.

“Nah he don’t know yet I just have to get out of this bitch. Roaches and shit everywhere… different rat bitches coming through every night.”

She moisturized my face, “You gotta tell him, Zee.”

I know that much. If I don’t tell him, he’d think somebody came in here and took my ass. Zo’s been so paranoid. I’m surprised he didn’t make Shaquita stay here to keep an eye on me. He did leave me with a 9mm I had sitting under the couch cushion.

I love my brother and appreciate him for this but baby…I just can’t do it.

“I am.” I paused, “So, you gone take me apartment searching?”

“Yep.
